Our author takes on many issues here, one of which being the problematic roles that wealth and power play in the lives of contemporary youth. Leo's character best displayed when our readers are offered the sense of an actual teen hiding behind the Young Republican façade that Leo thinks will hide the blatant madness of King's genes. On the other hand, Melinda is completely against Leo's Republican ideals and fully enforces the punk rock lifestyle Leo hated. Another one of the issues addressed in this book is the many hardships of family and bonding. Cases like Leo's, where the blame of fatherhood gets placed on another man, are not all that unfamiliar. To lighten up these issues, Korman uses the comedic style that he's become infamous for, which is entertaining the reader at first and then letting us put some thought into the story later. Born to Rock is a great experience, and Leo's development will satisfy teen audiences, but the novel's political framework is American. Leo's Republicanism is a vital component of his determination to succeed.
