”Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them.” - Dalai Lama XIV. This quote is basically saying that the purpose of life is to help others and care for them, but if you can’t help them, just care for them and make them happy. The three characters that show a caring trait are Mitty, George and Candy. Mitchell "Mitty" Blake is a teenage boy who lives in New York City with his parents. He is carefree and does not worry much about his grades or school. George Milton, an intelligent but uneducated man, and Lennie Small, a man of large stature and great strength but limited mental abilities—are on their way to another part of California in Soledad. They hope to one day attain their shared dream of settling down on their own piece of land. Lennie's part of the dream is merely to tend to (and touch) soft rabbits on the farm. Caring is a breathtaking trait to have, the characters in Of Mice And Men and Code Orange are very warmhearted.

During the great depression, some people have a caring or a selflessness trait in this time. According to what Steinbeck said in Of Mice And Men, Candy has a kind-hearted trait, “S’pose I went in with you guys. Tha’s three hundred an’ fifty bucks i’d put in“(Steinbeck 59). The character is showing selflessness because he was giving George money for the ranch, he wanted to help them tend their ranch when they get it, Candy is old and he can’t do much work. he character Candy shows that is giving George money for the dream ranch. Because he is kind and he has selflessness. Because he is old and wants to live happy with them. Because its better living with them than working on that ranch.The character Candy shows that is giving George money for the dream ranch. Because he is kind and he has selflessness. Because he is old and wants to live happy with them. Because its better living with them than working on that ranch. Candy, Lennie and George got money for the ranch and they got excited, they ended up not getting the ranch because of Lennie, but he killed Curley’s Wife because she has soft hair and he kept petting it and she started to scream. Candy has a loving trait, the character George has a caring trait.

In the Great Depression, people will be very caring or can be very harsh. In the book Of Mice And Men by Steinbeck, George states that, ‘’I told his old lady I’d take care of him’’(Steinbeck 22). George is showing this emotion because he cares for Lennie, the Boss was suspecting he was taking Lennie’s paycheck from him, and Lennie’s old woman told him to take care of Lennie. It describes how George is understanding towards Lennie. Because George is a caring person. Because he wants to be nice to others. Because Lennie can't take care of himself. It creates Lennie and George having a very good bond. It has wider effects towards the end of the story because George has to kill Lennie in order for Lennie to die happy,
instead of Curley shooting his guts out. Because Lennie killed Curley’s wife and he wanted revenge. Because he broke his hand. Some characters are very loving, but others say Mitty can be more caring.

In this time, people were having struggles and they needed to care for each other. Mitty from the book Code Orange by Cooney, He is brave in the book, “Mitty avoided suggestions that he ought to be reading “(Cooney 23). He is claiming that he avoided some suggestions that he was reading. Because he wanted to avoid those suggestions. Because he didn't like those suggestions. Because he didn't like them. The evidence in the book by Cooney shows that Mitty was avoiding suggestions. Because he was avoiding suggestions. Because MItty avoided those suggestions. Because he didn't like those suggestions. It shows that Mitty was going to avoid some suggestions that he ought to be reading. Because he didn't want too. Because he didn't like the suggestions. Because he didn't want to read them. Some characters may be kind and all, but some characters can be very mean and angry.

Some may say that these characters are mean, which is driven by how they have been raised and how they lived their life. This is clearly true, because Curley picks on big guys, assuming that he was possibly bullied when he was younger. Also George is a mean guy, he yells at Lennie and tells him he would be better off without him. However, each character’s choice were selfish and only benefited themselves. The put people down by acting stronger. Selfishness and Meanness aren’t a good trait but caring and selflessness is a good trait unlike selfishness and meanness.

Kindness is an amazing trait to have, the characters in Of Mice And Men and Code Orange are very caring. Protecting is a good trait, the three characters that have this Caring or Selflessness trait are Candy, Mitty and George. They all show in the books that they care for others. Caring and selflessness are traits that many people have. Those traits can be useful in life and are good when you can work with others very well.
