ear Journal , March 02, 1945

I remember on April 16 of 1942 was when the first evacuation began. During this time, life for an average Japanese american citizen was hard. All one could think about is the betrayal that the U.S did to us. We were put in these camps that were musty , full of dirt and fenced in by wire fences. In addition , where the camps was located ( california) the weather wasn't our favorite. We couldn't even do normal activities, the only activities that you were able to do is stand in line for bathrooms and to eat food.
We were given education but it wasn't education that was given to caucasians you know? It sucks knowing that you are an american but are treated like an outsider. It sucks being scapegoated for something you shouldn't be.
The reason why these internment camps were invented is because Pearl Harbor got attacked by the Japanese navy. So since the people that attacked Pearl Harbor is Japanese everybody that is Japanese should get blamed, you know one does something EVERYBODY should get punished. THE WHOLE RACE. Do you know how remotely stupid that sounds coming from people that are very educated and are higher ranked than us normal citizens. They justified what they did by saying they were protecting and taking extra precaution on the U.s. Theodore Roosevelt was trying to save the rest of america by taking out some of his own people. How is that okay. How is that justice. How is that equal rights and liberty for all. How does that make sense to him or to anybody? It hurt being an american but being treated like if you wasn't doing your part in america. As if you didn't work and bleed for your money like any other american.

On our way to the camp we was all put into trucks and transported all together to the camps. Arriving there was an eye opener. We all were like “ where are we ?” “ why we here “ “ when are we leaving” All I see is tons and bunch of rusty , long, not so wide tents. The camp that I got relocated at was in California. Which was very miserable. Life was hard most likely because of the areas. The area that I was in made farming very difficult and we usually ate nasty gruby-style food. It was often too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter making life very difficult and uncomfortable. I was scared .
