Poker Versions from Europe and the United States
Poker (a hand-held game or card) is a game that has its roots in Rome. It's a mix of two ancient Greek games "punts" and "spearfish". In Roman games, players dealt four "ces" (the original) face-down on the table in front of them. The players were looking at each other, and the winner of the hand with the most number of cards could keep his deck. This was referred to as "tournament poker" as the winner must remain for the duration of the tournament until someone else was able to take away a "queen."

Later, "poker," which originated in Venice, spread across France and Italy, Germany, and ultimately to England. In America the first documented evidence of" Memphis Rules" was in the 17th century.
