The Supreme court and the role:
How did early Supreme Court decisions expand the powers of the federal government?

the Judiciary Act of 1789 created the Federal court system, which is very common for us today.it did is one, it gave the Supreme Court original jurisdiction over new types of cases. Marbury v. Madison is one of the most important cases in Supreme Court history.
Maubury was appointed as a federal judge. However, he did not receive his appointment.
Madison served as the Secretary of State and he refused to honor Marbury's appointment. he said ( I do not want you to be a federal judge.)
Facts; the Judiciary Act of 1789 created the Federal court system, which is very common for us today.
what it did is one, it gave the Supreme Court original jurisdiction over new types of cases. Now, original jurisdiction means that the Supreme Court can hear a case directly. It does not have to go through a lower court .It goes from the case to the Supreme Court. Maubury said, that Madison should be required to give him that appointment. the Judiciary Act of 1789, it gave the Supreme Court original jurisdiction to hear that case. The Supreme Court did not have to wait for it to make its way through a lower court, then be appealed to then the Supreme Court, then go for the case directly to the Supreme Court. The decision of Marbury vs Madison was this-- that the Supreme Court, under the leadership of Chief Justice John Marshall, ruled that the Judiciary Act of 1789 was unconstitutional. As part of it, they ruled, and they said that the court did not have original jurisdiction in the Marbury case. Because they didn't have original jurisdiction-- or for to go directly to the Supreme Court-- it was ruled that the Supreme Court could not hear the Marbury court case. And it ruled against Marbury. this act gave powers to the Supreme Court that went beyond the constitution's limits.
