Despite the consultation and preparation by animal control officers, a venomous zebra cobra was captured on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, ending an eventful 48-hour period that attracted attention throughout North Carolina.
The cobra was guided into a red bucket and taken to a safe location so that the glue could be removed completely.
At youtube.com, a striped snake crawled out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive onto the front porch of a home earlier in the day. As it lifted its head, the hood was visible.
Before moving in to capture the snake, Animal Control officers moved camera crews to the back.
An early morning 911 call from that same home prompted the search.

The North Carolina capital is Raleigh. Following hours of consultation and preparation by police and animal control officers, a glue trap ultimately trapped a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, bowing out a nearly 48-hour ordeal that gained national attention.
A red bucket was used to guide the cobra into a safe location so that the glue could be removed from its body completely.
The WRAL cameras captured the striped snake crawling out of the siding of a Sandringham Drive house, onto the front porch. When it lifted its head to look around, the top of its hood was visible.
When Animal Control officers confirmed the snake was the one they moved camera crews back before they attempted to catch it.
911 call from that same house sparked the search at the beginning of Tuesday.

Joan Nelson said she was relieved that the ordeal was over.
'I feel very safe now,' she said. It feels good to be able to walk on the deck and outside. It's very sad for the snake, though.

A zebra cobra can spit 9 feet long and is faster than most snakes, making morning dog walks extremely hazardous. The African Snakebite Institute cites the snake as extremely dangerous. As a result of the venom, a victim's nervous system could shut down.
Those stung by the poison would experience severe pain, swelling, rashes, nausea, and diarrhea as a result. In the aftermath, a severe fever and breathing problems would ensue, which could eventually lead to respiratory failure.
A veterinarian at Avian and Exotic Animal Care, Salina Locke, treats all sorts of animals there.
Normally, this cobra species does not bite. The venom is more likely to spray because they are very accurate and go straight for the eye, she said.
The snake is not recommended as a pet by Locke due to its risk.
Sleeping people are more likely to be bitten. Bite victims may suffer health problems for years, research reveals.
There was a police search of 6917 Chamonix Place Tuesday afternoon, near the street where the last sighting of the cobra was reported.
In March, police visited the home four times because of an animal problem. Following the sighting on Monday and Tuesday of the zebra cobra on a porch about half a mile away, they returned.
The records of county government indicate that Keith and Rebecca Gifford reside at this address. In a Facebook profile associated with Keith Gifford's name, there are several pictures of snakes he says his son Christopher owns.
Christopher Gifford has more than 460000 followers on TikTok. The author of the post claims to have a seven-foot zebra cobra.
