As you go down the periodic table the more reactive the elements become more reactive. A row is called a period a column is called a group. Properties of metals are sonorus the make a sound when you hit them, conductors of heat and electricity, lustorus shiny, mallebale they can be shaped, ductile, can be made into a wire. non metals are weak and brittle they shatter when solid, low melting point poor conductors of electricity and heat. Dmitri mendaleev orgaized the periodic table sucessfully and left gaps for new discoveries john newlands theory was called the law of the octaves which didnt work fully. metals are found on the left of the periodic table and non metals on the right. metalloids act like metals and sometimes non metals. all metals are solid except mercury the elements in group 1 are alkaline metals the elements in group 17 are called halogens. metalloids are found just where non metals and metals are seperated it looks stair shaped. a compound is made out of 2 or more different atoms a element is made out of 1 atom only and a property is a characteristics of a compound or element
