One glue trap ends days of searching for venomous zebra cobras in north Raleigh.
Following many hours of consultation and preparation by Animal Control officers, the glue trap finally caught a venomous zebra cobra on the porch of a home in north Raleigh on Wednesday night, capping a 48-hour case involving North Carolina media.
The glue was removed from the cobra's body after being guided into a red bucket and brought to a safe location.
The snake was seen crawling onto a porch of a house on Sandringham Drive earlier in the day. When it lifted its head to look around, its hood was visible.
When Animal Control officers confirmed the snake was the one they moved camera crews back before they attempted to catch it.
911 call from that same home sparked the search in the early morning Tuesday.

In Raleigh, North Carolina. Despite hours of consultation and preparation of law enforcement and animal control officers, a venomous zebra cobra was captured with a glue trap on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping a 48-hour saga that attracted national attention.
As the cobra was guided into the bucket, it was taken to a safe area where the glue on its body could be removed completely.
The WRAL cameras captured the striped snake crawling out of the siding of a Sandringham Drive house, onto the front porch. While raising its head to take a look around, its hood was visible.
When officers confirmed it was the snake, they walked back from the camera crew before moving in to try and capture it.
911 call from that same house sparked the search at the beginning of Tuesday.

Her neighbor Joan Nelson expressed relief at the end of the ordeal.
She said she was really happy and that she felt much safer now. Now that I'm outside, I can go on my deck and have a walk. The snake, though, must have felt bad.
A zebra cobra has been missing from a north Raleigh neighborhood where this stunted snake is seen.
Having a snake that can spit up to nine feet long can make even a morning dog walk a frightening experience. The African Snakebite Institute reports that this snake is very dangerous. It could cause a victim's nervous system to shut down.
Anyone who has been poisoned by the cobra will feel pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. Following a heavy fever, breathing problems would result, leading to respiratory failure.
At Avian and Exotic Animal Care, veterinarian Salina Locke treats all kinds of pets.
Cobras of this type are rarely known to bite. Generally, they squirt their venom a lot and shoot straight for the eyes, she said.
The risk of keeping this snake as a pet prevents Locke from recommending this snake for this purpose.
People tend to get bitten most often when they're sleeping. Bite victims may suffer health problems for years, research reveals.
There was a police search of 6917 Chamonix Place Tuesday afternoon, near the street where the last sighting of the cobra was reported.

There are county records showing that Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address. The Facebook page containing Keith Gifford's name contains several photos of snakes that he claims to own.
