Glue trap in Raleigh ends daylong search for venomous zebra cobra.
Despite the consultation and preparation by animal control officers, the glue trap finally caught a venomous zebra cobra on the porch of a home in north Raleigh on Wednesday night, capping a 48-hour case involving North Carolina media.
The glue was removed from the cobra's body by putting it in a red bucket and transporting it to a safe location.
WRAL's cameras caught the snake the previous day crawling onto the porch of a house on Sandringham Drive. In looking around, the hood of the vulture was visible.
Officers from Animal Control moved the cameras back after confirming that it was the snake, trying to capture it before moving in.
Early Tuesday, a 911 call from that home sparked the search.

In Raleigh, North Carolina. Despite hours of consultation and preparation of law enforcement and animal control officers, a glue trap ultimately trapped a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping an unusual 48-hour saga that garnered national attention.
Cobra was placed in red bucket and moved to a safe location to fully remove glue from its body.
A striped snake was captured by WRAL cameras crawling onto a front porch on Sandringham Drive earlier in the day. Lifting its head, it was able to see its hood.
After confirming it was the snake, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back before moving in to capture it.
An early morning 911 call from that same home prompted the search.

Her neighbor Joan Nelson expressed relief at the end of the ordeal.
She says she feels safe and happy now. My deck and I have become more comfortable outside now. It's very sad for the snake, though.

Having a snake that can spit up to nine feet long can make even a morning dog walk a frightening experience. The African Snakebite Institute cites the snake as extremely dangerous. An animal's venom could cause the victim's nervous system to shut down.
Someone who is bitten by the poison of a cobra would feel pain, swelling, gastrointestinal irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. In the aftermath, a severe fever and breathing problems would ensue, which could eventually lead to respiratory failure.
Veterinary specialist Salina Locke treats all kinds of pets at Avian and Exotic Animal Care in Nashville, Tennessee.
The cobra in this species usually does not bite. Venom is more likely to be sprayed by them, she said; they are very accurate and aim straight for the eyes.
The risk of keeping this snake as a pet prevents Locke from recommending this snake for this purpose.
Sleeping is the most common time when people are bitten. Bite victims could be plagued with health problems for years, studies show.
In the afternoon of Tuesday, police searched a home near the street where the cobra was last spotted, at 6917 Chamonix Place.
Four officers were dispatched to that home for an animal issue in March. Zebra cobras were seen on a porch a half mile away on Monday and Tuesday, after this was initially reported.
The county records indicate that Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at this address. An account linked to Keith Gifford's name features several photos of snakes belonging to his son, Christopher.
Chris Gifford has more than 460000 followers on TikTok. He says he has a 7-foot-long zebra cobra on one of his posts.
