James Whitfield Thomson
American novelist James Whitfield Thomson was a founding member of Andre Dubus's writer's workshop and a veteran of the Vietnam War. He has also served as a U.S. Navy navigator and is a graduate of Harvard College, where he received a scholarship. Currently based in Natick, Massachusetts, Thomson is the author of four novels and numerous short stories. His work has been translated into many languages and has won several awards, including the Boston Book Award.

A native of Pittsburgh, Thomson attended Harvard College on a scholarship and went on to serve in the Navy during the Vietnam War.
