One glue trap ends days of searching for venomous zebra cobras in north Raleigh.
As a result of hours of consultation between law enforcement and animal control officers, a glue trap was ultimately deployed to capture a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday, a 48-hour incident that generated nationwide interest.

To remove the glue fully from its body, the cobra was guided into a red bucket and moved to a safe location.

Earlier in the day, WRAL's cameras caught the snake crawling out of a siding onto a porch on Sandringham Drive. When it lifted its head to look around, its hood was visible.

After confirming the snake was the one they were trying to capture, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back.

Searches were launched early Tuesday after the same home made a 911 call.

ARLINGTON, N.C. Despite hours of consultation and preparation of law enforcement and animal control officers, a venomous zebra cobra was captured on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday night, capping an event that garnered attention throughout the state.

The cobra was guided into a red bucket and taken to a safe location so the glue could be completely removed.

Earlier in the day, WRAL's cameras caught the snake crawling out of a siding onto a porch on Sandringham Drive. When it lifted its head to look around, its hood was visible.

Before moving in to capture the snake, Animal Control officers moved camera crews to the back.

A 911 call from the same location prompted the search early Tuesday morning.

The ordeal has ended, said Joan Nelson, her neighbor.

I feel much safer and I am really happy, she said. It feels good to be able to walk on the deck and outside. However, I feel bad for the snake.

One zebra cobra has gone missing from a north Raleigh neighborhood where there is a striped snake on a porch.

Zebra cobras are fast, can spit up to nine feet, and can spit at high speeds, making even morning dog walks dangerous. Approximately 60% of all snakebite deaths occur in Africa. A victim's nervous system might shut down upon ingestion of the venom.

Anyone who has been poisoned by the cobra will feel pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. In the aftermath, a severe fever and breathing problems would ensue, which could eventually lead to respiratory failure.

An enthusiastic veterinarian, Salina Locke treats all kinds of pets at Avian and Exotic Animal Care.

The cobra species in this group doesn't typically bite. It is more likely that they will spray their venom . They are very accurate and go straight for the eyes.

Despite the risks involved, Locke does not recommend keeping this snake as a pet.

Bite incidents are most common during sleep. The effects of being bitten may last for years, according to research.

In the late afternoon on Tuesday, police searched 6917 Chamonix Place, near the place where the snake was last spotted.

There were four visits by police to that house in March in connection with an animal issue. They returned on Monday and Tuesday after the zebra cobra was discovered on a porch about a half mile away.
