Things to Consider Before Buying a Canvas Print

Canvas prints are very popular and you will find that they look great hung on a wall in an office, reception area or even at home. They come in all shapes and sizes and the quality is excellent. Picking your photo and getting it printed onto canvas can be a bit of a minefield though, so here are some simple things to consider before you buy:

1) Make sure that your image is Hi-Res! If it isn't, then you should forget about having it printed onto canvas. A low resolution (or pixelated) picture simply won't look good when enlarged onto canvas. Your camera's pixel count is not enough either - what matters is the DPI (Dots Per Inch). DPI determines how large your photo can be printed before it starts to lose quality. Generally speaking, the larger the canvas print you want, the higher the DPI should be. The best way of checking your image is via this simple test:

Does the picture look good when you zoom right into 100%? If so - great. You don't need to do anything else because your image will print perfectly onto canvas at that size. If not, then use Photoshop or Elements (or similar software) to increase its pixel count by 500%. Keep zooming in until it looks good and then keep doubling it until you reach 5000-10000px (depending on how large you want your finished print). Make sure all lines are clean and crisp no jagged edges anywhere.

2) If you want to print your photo on an unusual size then that's fine, just go ahead and order it. Your canvas print will be made especially for you so the only thing they won't consider is printing small numbers of canvases onto frames. The reason they can't do this is because once they've cut the canvases down to fit the frame there will be an unsightly overlap around the edge where it has been glued together.

3) Canvas prints are not cheap - but they are worth every penny! They are printed with 12 different fade resistant inks which give a long lasting life expectancy of over 80 years indoors. There are two options when buying a canvas print:

i) Matt finish - this has a traditional canvas texture and is perfect for those who like the natural look of the canvas.

ii) Lustre finish - this looks more like a photo print than a traditional canvas because it has that smooth surface. It's great if you want your image to really stand out and the colours are extremely vibrant. It also shows up details in darker areas much better than a matt finish does. If you're not sure which one to go for then why not order a sample pack first? 4) How your canvas will be supplied depends on what size you've chosen:

i) Smaller sizes can be rolled up into a tube, whereas larger canvases will be delivered stretched onto sturdy wooden stretcher bars which make putting them onto the wall much easier.

5) Finally, here's a useful tip to make sure that your custom canvas prints are delivered in perfect condition:

i) If you're not happy with them then either refuse the delivery or if that isn't possible then mark the box as 'damaged' during transit. You could even take some photos before they are unpacked for evidence! All our canvases are made carefully by hand so nobody wants to find their beautiful print has arrived damaged. Having said that though, it is quite rare for any problems to occur because we package everything securely and only use the best couriers.

If you follow these simple suggestions, what you will receive is a stunning piece of wall art which would grace any area perfectly and give years of enjoyment.
