Gambling Disorders - Depression and Anxiety and IPV
Problem gambling can be harmful to your mental and physical health. Gambling addiction is a serious public health problem in many countries. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders (DSM-5) states that a person must show or display at least four of the following over the course of twelve months: frequent occurrence of gambling problems with financial or other resources. People who continue to gamble without expending additional resources are deemed to be gamblers. To be diagnosed with a gambling disorder, the DSM-5 states that a person must show or exhibit at least four of the symptoms identified in the following section:

A. A. The urge could be triggered by emotional turmoil, loneliness, frustration, or by feeling shut out by society. B. People who engage in IPV discover that their gambling addiction quickly increases when there are intimacy issues in the relationship. A IPV study found that relationships that had less frequent and incongruous IPV weren't more likely to be prone to infidelity than those with greater frequency IPV.

C. General behavioral and cognitive disorders can also contribute to the development of gambling-related disorders. Gamblers may also be suffering from depression or mood disorders when they are using drugs or alcohol. Alcoholism and drugs can cause a variety of mental health issues, including sexual dysfunction, marital problems and substance abuse and addiction. Gambling can be affected indirectly by alcohol use, as it can cause irritability and an impulsivity, which is linked to IPV.

D. These factors can trigger existing or developing gambling issues. Communication skills that are poor and dysfunctional interpersonal relationships could cause negative effects on the development of gambling disorders. The presence of other risk factors such as alcohol and substance abuse can increase the psychological and communication difficulties related to IPV. These risk factors can increase the negative effects of IPV like relationships and communication issues.

E. Physical and emotional impacts can be experienced when there is a lack of communication or a dysfunctional interpersonal relationship. These factors can increase the chances of having gambling problems and increase the severity. Gamblers are often lonely and vulnerable due to poor communication skills and have trouble with interpersonal relationships. This isolation and vulnerability make them vulnerable to emotional problems and abusive behavior of family and friends. If these relationships become strained, the relative isolation of the gambler makes it even more likely that he'll engage in gambling to alleviate these emotional stresses.

F. There is a higher likelihood that you'll be suffering from symptoms of compulsive gaming disorder when you gamble online because the internet allows anonymity. Gamblers may suffer from symptoms like excessive anxiety and stress and loss of appetite, weight loss, or the difficulty in relaxing. You may also be enticed by the internet to put down greater stakes than you could afford losing. This increases the chance of financial disaster.

G. Emotional connections with close friends can become strained when a person is involved with online gambling. If your partner or girlfriend is your closest confidante and you are a frequent gambler, it's likely that the intimate members of a person with compulsive gambling disorder may feel abandoned and not be able to trust you. If that is the case, it is possible to experience depression anxiety if you and your partner talk about any gambling issues. In addition, if your family members do not support your lifestyle, you could be more susceptible to depression when you engage in online gambling, too.

H. IPV and family violence are an interactive process. There are strong genetic and environmental factors that influence the likelihood of developing IPV. However, the interactive nature and vulnerability to violence caused through gambling as well as IPV makes these conditions more vulnerable. Although it isn't clear what ways gambling and IPV interact to increase the risk of interpersonal violence, a study found that women with gambling disorders had higher rates of violence than those without.
