Annotated Bibliography Requirements

Your annotated bibliography should be placed on the google document that I have already shared with you in your Honors World Cultures folder. It is already shared with me. This way, I can check up on your progress and make sure you meet each deadline.

1. The sources are:

2. List the source in proper MLA format. If the source is from elibrary, you may just copy and paste the citation from the elibrary page. If it is a web site, go to www.easybib.com and put your url in the box on the page. It will find most of the information for you and ask you to enter the rest. Once you have your citation, copy and paste it onto your document.

Also, please copy and paste the URL below your citation so I can easily check it if needed.

3. Now write the annotated bibliography information below the source listing.

A. Write a summary of the information you got from the source. The summary should be:
an overview of the whole source and its contents
a paragraph of 3-5 sentences
paraphrased: use your own words to summarize the source (no quotes or re-worded text from the source)

B. Answer the question:

What makes this source credible? Include specific details from the source or information about it.
(2-3 sentences)
Questions to consider when writing this section.
Who wrote the article? What are his/her credentials? Biases?
Who published it? What is the organizations purpose, goal, biases?
When was it published? Is it recent enough to still be accurate?
Does the information match other sources?

Pick out a direct quotation from the source that is particularly interesting and meaningful. List it. This will be helpful to you as you prepare your speech.

A. Thousands have been killed and more have been kicked out of their homes as a result of the blood diamond war. The blood diamonds themselves are a billion dollar industry. When the president had just been elected, the RUF wasn't a problem. However, after a little while they became more violent than ever before, killing and mutilating thousands of people. Eventually the United Nations intervened and helped.


B. This source is credible because it is from World Press, an organization that deals with worldwide news. Also, it is a nonprofit organization, so they have nothing to gain from making up their articles. Plus, everything that is said or claimed in the article is supported with quotes and data facts.

C. According to a report by Partnership Africa Canada (P.A.C.), “upwards of 50,000 [have been] killed, half the population displaced, and more than two-thirds of its already severely limited infrastructure destroyed.” Meanwhile, the underground trade of illicit diamonds is booming. Conflict diamonds are valued “between 4 percent and 15 percent of the world total” and generate annual trade revenues of $7.5 billion
