Jolly Phonics is designed for children of all abilities . It offers all-sensory, child-centred and fun. Jolly Phonics teaches the art of reading using synthetic phonics with an approach for children that is child-friendly. Multi-sensory approaches are highly engaging for children. They are supported by scientific evidence and has been accepted all over the globe.

The program is focused on the teaching and practicing that use the English alphabetic codes. The curriculum for phonics is not meant to replace English lessons.

There are actions for every 42 letters. In the Letter Sound Order chart below will show how the letters are divided in 7 categories.

Jolly Phonics is composed of five key skills:
Jolly-Phonics-Reading
Learning the Letter Sounds
Learning Letter Formation
Blending
Identifying Sounds in Words
Tricky Words
Below are illustrations and explanations of all 5 core skills below.

1.Learning the Letter Sounds
Jolly-Phonics-Jolly-Reading
The most important 42 sounds in English are taught. One daily sound, in order of the Jolly Phonics recommended order.

s , a , t , i ,p , n
ck , e , h , r , m , d
g ,o ,u ,l , f ,b
ai , j , oa , ie , ee , or
z , w , ng , v , oo , oo
y , x , ch , sh , th , th
qu , ou , oi , ue , er , ar
To introduce children to the alphabet, a multisensory approach uses a variety of methods. Each sound is given an explanation and a sequence of actions in addition to a Sound Sheet. Children will be more likely to recall the sound by engaging in activities that are related to it.

For instance, they could rub their stomachs and say "mmmmm", for the /m/ sound.

The sound 'r' is taught through action using two hands spread across and moving like an aeroplane 'RRRRRRR ......'.

The sound "h" can be taught by imagining that you are tired and making "ha ......' noise.

Every child is given an individual 'Sound' Book. Every day, the sound book contains the letter sound. The book can be saved and brought home with every child. Parents are asked to help children to learn the sounds. This can be accomplished through reading from the Sound Book and/or cutting up the letters. To be able to blend quickly, it's important to make the letters sound well. The daily flashcards should be displayed for youngsters to use as an visual aid. Two letters may represent certain sound, which are called digraphs. Children should be adept at recognizing digraphs inside words, such as the 'ng' in the word'. Every digraph 'oo' as well as "th" are two different words: e.g., book and moon thin and that. Jolly Phonics has them written in two sizes in the beginning to help children to understand each sound.

2. Learning Letter Formation
Jolly-Phonics-Reading
The children are taught to correctly form each letter when they are learning the sounds of letters. Initially, the teacher will instruct the children to form the letters at the same time in the air. After the first 12 weeks, the majority of children are able to create letters with accuracy by feeling and writing each letter.

It is equally important that children are taught how to hold their pencils correctly by using this grip.

Jolly Phonics makes use of the Sassoon Infant text face with joining tails. This makes it much simpler for children to learn writing in cursive (joined-up) writing.

3. Blending
Jolly Phonics Blending-Jolly Reading
Children must be taught the sounds they hear and how to mix them to form words. This starts the very first day. It is vital that children hear when their teacher talks. For example, "Listen carefully, what word do I say... d-o-g?" Children may be able to hear "dog". There are a few other words feasible, for example,'su-n' or 'boy' or'mou'se'.

Once children are able to be able to recognize sounds and hear the words being spoken, they'll be able develop their own language. To read, youngsters must be able mix letters fluently. This skill is crucial to begin and can be utilized as a basis for finding unfamiliar words. The children must be able identify consonant digraphs and blend into words such as fl'a'g" and "sh-o-p".

After the children have learned the sounds of the alphabet and can read regular words, they can take home the 'Word Boxes' for practice. Word Boxes are words that can be made using the initial set of sound letters. Children who are able to mix sounds swiftly become fluent readers.

At first, only one spelling method for vowels is taught. Children should be able of mixing these spellings into words prior to when they learn the alternate spellings.

When the children have completed the Word Boxes and discovered some unusual words, they should be provided with stories. Tell parents that your child cannot bring the book home until he or she has learned the art of blending. Parents should be encouraging their children to discuss the books they've read.

4. Identifying Sounds in Words
The ability to recognize sounds in words - Jolly Reading
Children should be able to detect individual sounds within words. This is particularly important when it comes to writing. Children will be required to listen attentively and ask if they can identify one particular sound within the words. For example, "Is there an's" in "sun", "mouse","mouse", or "dog '?"; "If there's an's", where is it coming from - the middle, end, or beginning?" Then, you can encourage children to make use of what they have heard to make. You can do this by using words like 'hat'. Children should be able to respond with 'h'a't. They should raise 1 finger per sound ,... "h-a't" three fingers to represent three sound; and'shi-p' with three fingers for three sounds. You can move on to more complex words, such as ones that have final and initial consonant blends.

As the children speak then the teacher draws the letters in chalkboard. The children then take a look at the word and make the sounds. They blend the sounds to write it. This will give you a better comprehension of reading and writing. This ability can be developed by practicing a few examples each day.

The child will begin writing on their own once they can hear and then write down the sound. Although they won't be able to spell correctly at first however, their writing can be read. In the course of their first year the majority of children should be able to compose simple stories and news independently. They will write exactly what they want, because they don't have to stick to the words they know. The art of spelling correctly takes time, as does as reading books and learning the different vowel sounds.

5. Tricky Words
tricky-words-jolly-phonics Jolly Reading
After the first month, most children are familiar with 18 letter sounds. They have also been learning how to blend words from their everyday vocabulary in a group task. After that, they will begin learning difficult words. The words considered to be tricky are those that cannot be combined. They can be introduced slowly using the Jolly Phonics Tricky word Cards. Look at the 'tricky" part of every word. For instance, "was" has an /o/ sound , instead of an/a/ sound. You should be able to instruct 2-3 times per week, and stay up with reading and spelling.

These spelling techniques can be employed: (Cover, Write and Examine)

Say It as It Sounds. For instance, you can pronounce'mother' by using the short sound of /o/, so it rhymes with the word "bother.

Mnemonics can be used to spell the word "people" (e.g., "people eat omelets people love eggs")

Jolly Phonics has been extensively studied and was found to be extremely efficient. Here are a few quotes in three projects dealing with synthetic Phonics. One in England and one each located in Scotland or Canada. A synthetic phonics method emphasizes the learning of individual letter sounds and how they can be combined into words. This is Jolly Phonics' core approach to teaching.

International Research & Study :
Reading 3.6 years ahead of their chronological age Spelling 1.9 years ahead of their chronological age Comprehension 3.5 months ahead Boys who read 9.5 months earlier than girls Boys who are 8.6 months earlier than girls
Demo: He has just done Phonics as a student in Sr. KG. He is now going to First. Indian Mythological stories have difficult words that aren't always read Phonetically but he is reading them all with great efficiency. The focus is on reading to help children become proficient Independent Readers and does not require for them to master Advanced Phonics
The Research:
"Jolly Phonics children were twelve months ahead of the expected level in reading ability for their age." "The synthetic phonics classes performed better than the whole language classes on 16 of 19 reading or spelling measures" "Jolly Phonics was able to produce long-lasting results, as demonstrated by the data."
