Elizabeth short was born July 29, 1924 in Boston Massachusetts, in a family of her 4 sisters her mom and her dad. in 1927 the family moved to Portland Maine before settling in Medford.
In 1930 her fathers car was found abandoned on the Charlestown bridge, it was assumed he jumped into the Charles river. believing her husband was dead Short's mother began working as a books keeper.
In late 1942 Short's mother received a letter of apology presumed deceased husband, which revealed he was in fact alive and started a new life in California.
In the December 1942 at age 18 short relocated to Vallejo, California, to live with her father, whom she had not seen since she was 6. In 1943 Short moved out of her fathers house due to arguments between the two.
