Raleigh police seal days-long hunt for venomous zebra cobra with glue trap.
Despite the consultation and preparation by animal control officers, the glue trap finally caught a venomous zebra cobra on the porch of a home in north Raleigh on Wednesday night, ending an eventful 48-hour period that attracted attention throughout North Carolina.

The cobra was guided into a red bucket and taken to a safe location so that the glue could be removed completely.

WRAL's cameras caught the snake the previous day crawling onto the porch of a house on Sandringham Drive. While raising its head to take a look around, its hood was visible.

Camera crews were moved back after the officers confirmed it was the snake before attempting to catch it.

911 call from that same home sparked the search in the early morning Tuesday.

The city of Raleigh, N.C., is the state capital. Despite hours of preparation by animal control and law enforcement officers, a zebra cobra was caught on a Raleigh porch on Wednesday night, capping a 48-hour saga that attracted national attention.

As soon as the cobra was guided into the red bucket, it was moved to a safe location where the glue could be fully removed.

An earlier image captured by WRAL show the snake scrabbling to the front porch of a house on Sandringham Drive, crawling through the siding. When it lifted its head to look around, the top of its hood was visible.

Officers from Animal Control moved the cameras back after confirming that it was the snake, trying to capture it before moving in.

The search was sparked by a 911 call from the same home early Tuesday.

It was a relief to neighbor Joan Nelson to have the ordeal over.

My feeling of security has improved, she said. After spending time on my deck, I feel like I can go outside now. Despite that, I feel terrible for the snake.

One zebra cobra has gone missing from a north Raleigh neighborhood where there is a striped snake on a porch.

Zebra cobras are fast, can spit up to nine feet, and can spit at high speeds, making even morning dog walks dangerous. Apparently, African Snakebite Institute believes the snake is very dangerous. A victim's nervous system could shut down if stung with venom.

Cobra poison causes immediate pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. Following a heavy fever, breathing problems would result, leading to respiratory failure.

Avian and Exotic Animal Care is owned and operated by veterinarian Salina Locke.

The cobras in this species are not typically biting. Venom is more likely to be sprayed by them, since their venom hits straight for the eye since they are so accurate.

Despite the risks involved, Locke does not recommend keeping this snake as a pet.

The majority of bites occur during sleep. Bite victims can experience health problems for decades, research shows.

There was a police search of a home near 6917 Chamonix Place where a cobra was last observed on Tuesday afternoon.

An animal problem led to four police visits in March. Approximately half a mile away, they spotted the zebra cobra on a porch, prompting them to return on Monday and Tuesday.

There are records in the county indicating Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address. There is a Facebook account for Keith Gifford that shows several photos of snakes that he claims are owned by his son, Christopher.

TikTok user Christopher Gifford has more than 460000 followers. His post claims he has a zebra cobra that is 7 feet long.
