A glue trap seals weeks of searching for a venomous zebra cobra in north Raleigh.
Despite the efforts of animal control officers and law enforcement, a glue trap was finally able to capture the deadly snake on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday night, a 48-hour incident that generated nationwide interest.

It was taken to a safer location to be fully cleaned after it was guided into the bucket and guided out.

An earlier image captured by WRAL show the snake scrabbling to the front porch of a house on Sandringham Drive, crawling through the siding. While raising its head to take a look around, its hood was visible.

Before moving in to capture the snake, Animal Control officers moved camera crews to the back.

In Raleigh, North Carolina. Despite hours of preparation by animal control and law enforcement officers, a glue trap captured a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday, capping an unusual 48-hour saga that garnered national attention.

The cobra was guided into a red bucket and taken to a safe location so the glue could be completely removed.

As WRAL's cameras captured it earlier in the day, a striped snake slithered out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive and onto a porch. Lifting its head, its hood could be seen.

After confirming it was a snake, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back of the area and attempted to capture it there.

The search was sparked by a 911 call from the same home early Tuesday.

A neighbor, Joan Nelson, said she is relieved the ordeal is over.

My feeling of security has improved, she said. Now that I'm outside, I can go on my deck and have a walk. Though I do feel a little sorry for the snake.

Even a morning dog walk can prove dangerous for this snake, a zebra cobra that can spit up to nine feet. African Snakebite Institute has described the snake as very dangerous. It is possible that the venom can damage a victim's nervous system.

Cobra poison causes immediate pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. The symptoms would be a heavy fever and breathing problems that could lead to respiratory failure.

Avian and Exotic Animal Care is owned and operated by veterinarian Salina Locke.

Cobras typically do not bite. Venom is more likely to be sprayed by them, she said; they are very accurate and aim straight for the eyes.

According to Locke, this snake is not suitable for keeping as a pet.

Most bites occur when a person is sleeping. Research shows that people who are bit may suffer health issues for years.

During a search on Tuesday afternoon, police searched the home on 6917 Chamonix Place, near where the cobra was last seen.

There were four visits by police to that house in March in connection with an animal issue. On Monday and Tuesday, they returned after spotting the zebra cobra on a porch about a half mile away.

The records of the county show Rebecca and Keith Gifford live at the address. A Facebook account associated with Keith Gifford shows several photos of snakes that Christopher Gifford also owns.

On TikTok, Christopher Gifford has over 460000 followers. A zebra cobra that is seven feet long is claimed by him on one of his posts.
