North Raleigh venomous zebra cobra hunt is over after glue trap takes care of the problem.
Following many hours of consultation and preparation by Animal Control officers, a venomous zebra cobra was caught with a glue trap on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday, a 48-hour incident that generated nationwide interest.

Cobras in red buckets are guided into a safe location so the glue on their bodies can be removed.

At youtube.com, a striped snake crawled out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive onto the front porch of a home earlier in the day. When it lifted its head to look around, the top of its hood was visible.

When officers confirmed it was the snake, they walked back from the camera crew before moving in to try and capture it.

911 call from that same home sparked the search in the early morning Tuesday.

N.C., Raleigh Despite hours of preparation by animal control and law enforcement officers, a glue trap captured a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday, capping a 48-hour saga that attracted national attention.

Glue was removed from the cobra's body by placing it in a red bucket and moving it to a safe location.

A striped snake was spotted earlier in the day crawling out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive, onto the front porch of a house. When it lifted its head to look around, the top of its hood was visible.

The Wildlife Control officers moved camera crews back after confirming that this is the snake, then went in to attempt to capture it.

911 call from that same home sparked the search in the early morning Tuesday.

A neighbor, Joan Nelson, said she is relieved the ordeal is over.

She said she felt safe and really happy. logan snake catcher Now that I'm outside, I can go on my deck and have a walk. However, I feel bad for the snake.

There has been a missing zebra cobra in a north Raleigh neighborhood where a striped snake is laying out on a porch.

The snake, a zebra cobra, can spit up to 9 feet and is faster than most snakes, making even a morning walk with the dog scary. Apparently, African Snakebite Institute believes the snake is very dangerous. A victim's nervous system might shut down upon ingestion of the venom.

One would feel immediate pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting and diarrhea if stung by a cobra's poison. The symptoms would be a heavy fever and breathing problems that could lead to respiratory failure.

Avian and Exotic Animal Care is owned and operated by veterinarian Salina Locke.

The species of cobras that are found in this area do not bite. Generally, they squirt their venom a lot and shoot straight for the eyes, she said.

The risk of keeping this snake as a pet prevents Locke from recommending this snake for this purpose.

Bite incidents are most common during sleep. Research shows that people who are bit may suffer health issues for years.

In the late afternoon on Tuesday, police searched 6917 Chamonix Place, near the place where the snake was last spotted.

Four police officers visited the home in March to investigate an animal problem. They returned Monday and Tuesday after seeing the zebra cobra on a porch about a half mile away.

There are records in the county indicating Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address. In a Facebook profile associated with Keith Gifford's name, there are several pictures of snakes he says his son Christopher owns.

Christopher Gifford has more than 460000 followers on TikTok. He claims to have a zebra cobra seven feet long on one of his posts.
