A glue trap seals weeks of searching for a venomous zebra cobra in north Raleigh.
Following many hours of consultation and preparation by officers from Raleigh police and animal control, a venomous zebra cobra was captured on Wednesday night by a glue trap, ending an eventful 48-hour period that attracted attention throughout North Carolina.
To remove the glue fully from its body, the cobra was guided into a red bucket and moved to a safe location.
A striped snake was spotted earlier in the day crawling out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive, onto the front porch of a house. Its hood was visible when it raised its head to look around.
When officers confirmed it was the snake, they walked back from the camera crew before moving in to try and capture it.
This same residence had called 911 early Tuesday, sparking the search.

In Raleigh, North Carolina. Following a 48-hour saga that garnered attention from across North Carolina, a venomous zebra cobra was caught with a glue trap on a Raleigh porch Wednesday night, bowing out a nearly 48-hour ordeal that gained national attention.
Cobras were placed inside red buckets and taken to a safe location so the glue could be removed completely from their bodies.
An earlier image captured by WRAL show the snake scrabbling to the front porch of a house on Sandringham Drive, crawling through the siding. Lifting its head, it was able to see its hood.
Before moving in to capture the snake, Animal Control officers moved camera crews to the back.
An early morning 911 call from that same home prompted the search.

Joan Nelson said she was relieved the ordeal was over.
She says she feels safe and happy now. Getting outside on my deck or stepping out on my deck gives me a sense of freedom. Despite that, I feel terrible for the snake.
A striped snake lies out on a porch in a north Raleigh neighborhood where a zebra cobra has disappeared.
A zebra cobra, which can spit up to nine feet, is faster than most snakes, so even a morning stroll with the dog becomes a fearsome event. It is very dangerous, according to the African Snakebite Institute. The venom can cause the nervous system to shut down.
Those stung by the poison would experience severe pain, swelling, rashes, nausea, and diarrhea as a result. Afterward, a fever and breathing problems would result, possibly resulting in respiratory failure.
An experienced veterinarian, Dr. Salina Locke, treats all kinds of pets at the Avian and Exotic Animal Care.
Cobras of this kind usually do not bite. The venom from them, she said, is typically sprayed. She said they are extremely accurate and shoot straight for the eyes.

A pet of this snake is not recommended because of the risks, according to Locke.
In most cases, bites occur when people are sleeping. A bit could cause health issues for years, research shows.
During a search on Tuesday afternoon, police searched the home on 6917 Chamonix Place, near where the cobra was last seen.
This home was visited four times by police during the month of March. Following the sighting on Monday and Tuesday of the zebra cobra on a porch about half a mile away, they returned.
The county records indicate that Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at this address. On a Facebook page associated with Keith Gifford's name, he posts photos of snakes owned by his son, Christopher.
TikTok user Christopher Gifford has more than 460000 followers. His posts claim he has a 7-foot zebra cobra.
