A glue trap ends a days-long search in north Raleigh for a venomous zebra cobra.
Despite the consultation and preparation by animal control officers, a glue trap snared a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping a 48-hour case involving North Carolina media.
To ensure fully removal of the glue from the cobra's body, we guided it into a red bucket and took it to a safe area.
A striped snake was captured by WRAL cameras crawling onto a front porch on Sandringham Drive earlier in the day. When it lifted its head to look around, its hood was visible.
When officers confirmed it was the snake, they walked back from the camera crew before moving in to try and capture it.
911 call from that same home sparked the search in the early morning Tuesday.

The city of Raleigh, N.C., is the state capital. Following hours of consultation and preparation by police and animal control officers, a zebra cobra was caught on a Raleigh porch on Wednesday night, capping an incident that drew widespread attention.
As the cobra was guided into the bucket, it was taken to a safe area where the glue on its body could be removed completely.

Camera crews were moved back after the officers confirmed it was the snake before attempting to catch it.
911 call from that same house sparked the search at the beginning of Tuesday.

Joan Nelson said she was relieved the ordeal was over.
She said she felt safe and really happy. After this experience, I feel like I can go outside, walk on the deck, or even go for a jog. Nevertheless, I feel somewhat sorry for the snake.
One zebra cobra has gone missing from a north Raleigh neighborhood where there is a striped snake on a porch.
Even a morning walk with your dog becomes dangerous due to the snake's ability to spit up to nine feet and be as fast as a zebra cobra. Consequently, the African Snakebite Institute says the snake is very dangerous. A victim's nervous system could be shut down by the venom.
One would feel immediate pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting and diarrhea if stung by a cobra's poison. A severe fever and breathing issues could cause respiratory failure.
Dr. Salina Locke, a veterinarian at Avian and Exotic Animal Care, treats all kinds of animals.
Normally, this cobra species does not bite. The venom sprays more readily, since it is so accurate. they aim right for the eyes, she said.
According to Locke, this snake is not suitable for keeping as a pet.
Sleeping is when most bites occur. A bit could cause health issues for years, research shows.
In the afternoon of Tuesday, police searched a home in 6917 Chamonix Place, near the spot where the cobra was first spotted.
In March, there was an issue with the animals at that home. They returned on Monday and Tuesday after the zebra cobra was discovered on a porch about a half mile away.
Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address, according to county records. The Facebook page containing Keith Gifford's name contains several photos of snakes that he claims to own.
TikTok user Christopher Gifford has more than 460000 followers. His posts claim he has a 7-foot zebra cobra.
