Glue trap seals 28-day search in north Raleigh for venomous zebra cobra.
Following many hours of consultation and preparation by officers from Raleigh police and animal control, a glue trap snared a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping a 48-hour case involving North Carolina media.
To remove the glue fully from its body, the cobra was guided into a red bucket and moved to a safe location.
An earlier video interview had captured a striped snake crawling onto a porch on Sandringham Drive from the siding of a house. When it lifted its head to look around, the top of its hood was visible.
After confirming it was the snake, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back before moving in to capture it.
Searches were launched early Tuesday after the same home made a 911 call.

A striped snake was spotted earlier in the day crawling out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive, onto the front porch of a house. Lifting its head, it was able to see its hood.
Camera crews were moved back after the officers confirmed it was the snake before attempting to catch it.
The search was sparked by a 911 call from the same home early Tuesday.

Neighbor Joan Nelson said the ordeal was over.
I feel much safer and I am really happy, she said. It feels good to be outside now, even walking on my deck. However, I feel bad for the snake.
A zebra cobra has been missing from a north Raleigh neighborhood where this stunted snake is seen.
Having a snake that can spit up to nine feet long can make even a morning dog walk a frightening experience. Consequently, the African Snakebite Institute says the snake is very dangerous. A victim's nervous system could be shut down by the venom.
A person hit by the poison would experience pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. Following a heavy fever and breathing problems, you might lose your breath and may die.
A veterinarian at Avian and Exotic Animal Care, Salina Locke, treats all sorts of animals there.
The cobra species in this group doesn't typically bite. Venom is more likely to be sprayed by them, she said; they are very accurate and aim straight for the eyes.
The risk of keeping this snake as a pet prevents Locke from recommending this snake for this purpose.
Sleeping people are more likely to be bitten. Bite victims could be plagued with health problems for years, studies show.
There was a police search of a home near 6917 Chamonix Place where a cobra was last observed on Tuesday afternoon.
An animal problem led to four police visits in March. Following the sighting on Monday and Tuesday of the zebra cobra on a porch about half a mile away, they returned.
The county records indicate that Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at this address. On a Facebook page associated with Keith Gifford's name, he posts photos of snakes owned by his son, Christopher.
Christopher Gifford has 460000 followers on TikTok. According to one of his posts, he claims to have a 7-foot zebra cobra.
