Fool Us Penn & Teller - Magicians Code
Penn & Teller Fool Us - Magician Code

On the TV show Fool Us, when a magician fools Penn & Teller , Penn & Teller use a code to let the magician know that they have figured out his secret method. If Penn & Teller figure out how a trick is done, Penn will say "One of us" and Teller will wave one arm. If Penn says "And now you" and Teller waves both arms, then Penn & Teller have failed to guess the secret of the trick.

If Penn says "And now you too" but only one of Penn's hands are raised , Penn is talking to an audience member who knows how the trick works. Teller is supposed to wave both arms, but Penn has noticed that Teller is not actually performing the trick.

If Penn says "No, no" and holds up his hands palm out with both his hands, Penn & Teller are saying this to themselves--they want to make sure they don't give away the method in plain English. Penn moving his finger from side to side next to Teller's head is Penn & Teller's way of showing a magician that Penn knows how the trick works.

If Penn says "Stop" and holds up one hand, Penn & Teller are not fooled by a trick. If Penn says "Please don't tell us" and puts one hand on his chin in a praying gesture, Penn & Teller know how the trick works but are not going to reveal it.

If Penn says "We're fooled" and Penn both of Penn's arms are raised, Penn & Teller have been entirely fooled by a magic trick. If Penn says Penn's "We congratulate you" and Penn points both his hands towards the magician Penn & Teller are congratulating the magician who fooled them.

If Penn says Penn's "You got us" Penn points one hand at himself and the other at Teller, Penn & Teller are not fooled by a trick. If Penn says "You got us both" Penn points one hand at himself and the other at Teller, Penn & Teller have been fooled by a trick.

If Penn says Penn's "You got me" Penn points one hand at himself and the other below his waist, Penn is telling the magician that he knows how the trick works but only for this part of the trick.

Sometimes Penn & Teller add a little bit of pantomime to their code, such as Penn rubbing his eyes when Penn says "Please don't tell us" and Penn holding one hand in the air when Penn says Penn's "You got me." https://www.looper.com/177614/the-untold-truth-of-penn-teller-fool-us/ & Teller also use different codes for tricks that they have already performed on Penn & Teller Fool Us.

Penn sprinkles his sentences with code words. Most of these code words are related to the name of the secret method the magician used in the trick. For example, if Penn believes the magician used magnets to achieve the illusion, Penn might say, "What I loved most about your act is your magnetic personality." If Penn believes the magician used invisible threads to make something levitate, he might say, "That was a great performance, and I always say a great performance is like a tapestry woven together one thread at a time." If Penn and Teller believe electricity was used, Penn might say, "Our the Fool Us show is like a car battery; it has positive Penn and negative Penn."
