CLOGGED OUTSIDE DRAINS "HOW TO"
Some of the things that can block your drain on the outside include mud, soil, leaves, branches, and burrowing birds. In addition to clogging up your kitchen sink, drains and toilets, you can also clog up your outside drainage system. A blocked outdoor drain can be handled in a few simple steps.


WHEN AN OUTSIDE DRAIN IS BLOCKED, WHAT TO DO
You can clear clogged outside drains by hand. However, you'll need to wear rubber gloves as the drains are usually smelly and dirty. To unclog the drain:

Remove the drain covers.

As best you can, remove as much gunk as you can from the entrance and exit.

Using a garden hose, connect it to the entrance point as far as you can, turn it on, and work the water until it is clean.

If there is standing water, you may want to remove as much of it as possible before removing the clog manually. Nevertheless, your garden hose will be able to pass through the standing water.

Clogged outside drains may require special tools, such as these:

Sewer-cleaning machine. With the machine, you feed a cable into your outdoor drain pipe. To clear the blockage, the cable rotates through the pipe. You can't use the machine on perforated or corrugated pipes since the cable's sharp tip will tear them apart.

Hydro jetting. A hydro jetter will work with perforated or corrugated pipes and PVC. The machine flushes out the blockage using high-pressure water.

You can rent hydro jetters from your local hardware store or sewer-cleaning machines. If you're not familiar with these machines, you could hurt yourself and your pipes.
