structure is a strong layer around plant cell= cell wall

structure of the cell controls what goes in and comes out of the cell = cell membrane

cell membrane: a protective layer surrounding a cell that controls what enters and leaves the cell

cell wall: a strong, supportive layer around the cell membrane in plants, algae, and some bacteria and fungi

chloroplast: a specialized organelle in photosynthetic organisms that captures the energy from sunlight and converts it into chemical energy

chloroplast: a specialized organelle in photosynthetic organisms that captures the energy from sunlight and converts it into chemical energy

cytoplasm: a jellylike substance that is contained within the cell membrane

DNA: an abbreviation for deoxyribonucleic acid, which is the genetic material passed from parent to offspring

lysosome: an organelle that contains digestive enzymes that break down waste materials

vacuole: an organelle used as a temporary storage areaeukaryote: an organism composed of one or more cells that contain nuclei
microscope: an instrument used to see things that are too small to see with the naked eye
multicellular: composed of many cells
prokaryote: a single-celled organism that lacks a nucleus and membrane-bound organelles
unicellular: composed of one cell

How to Set Up a Microscope

1.plug the microscope into outlet.
2.After you plug the electric cord in, turn on the light on the lower part of microscope.
3.Third turn the zoom choices to the smallest zoom of 10.
4.pick a slide that you want to look at.
5.Look through microscope and line up subject with arrow that is inside the lens.
6.Turn the zoom options from the smallest to the biggest.
Turn major focus knob on the side of the microscope. Adjust back and forth until subject becomes visible but not crystal clear.
8.Next turn the smaller, fine focus knob until each individual cell is clearly outlined.
9.Look through your microscope and study your tissue. Enjoy the clear image that you just produced.
chlorophyll: the green pigment found in chloroplasts that absorbs light energy required for photosynthesis
eukaryote: an organism composed of one or more cells that contain nuclei
flagellum: a tail-like structure on a cell that allows it to move
organ: a group of tissues that work together to perform a common function
organ system: a group of organs that work together to perform a common function
organism: a living thing
photosynthesis: the process by which green plants and some other organisms use water, sunlight, and carbon dioxide to make food
prokaryote: a single-celled organism that lacks a nucleus and membrane-bound organelles
