During bridge, we had a "class" with dean of multicultural student affairs and we were talking about systematic racism and being a person of color in the workplace/campus. this guy named Andrew spoke up and he deadass said, white people are ahead because they have the mentality to be successful and just like went on basically about how white people deserve to be where they are because theyre better
Mind you, andrew is a white blond kid apparently of south african descent
anyways, the moment he said that, everybody's face dropped
like...
in a room full of black and brown kids, he said that all
later that night, my friends and I talked about it and then the counselurs came in and they were like, we heard this happened, is it true
and so I think they brought it up with Dean Gunn the head of the bridge program and so she called another meeting with the other Dean who gave us the class last time
we talked about it more, and so I asked a question
I asked, what do you do when your peers don't believe in your success or ability
like we talked about it for a while but nothing was really done
like my friends responded and were like, don't affiliate with them
but we are engineers/scientists
how can you afford to have someone who doesn't velieve in your work
like...that's not how it works
youre effectively keeping me out of my field of work
if you don't beleive that I am capable
or believe in my ability
like this is a larger issue
cause nothing happened to that kid, like he is a white supremacist



Maybe this is a bit off topic, but would you guys be open to creating an RPI conference dedicated to hosting workshops throughout the year/community based discussion on a small/medium scale. Like face to face conversations as a priority over
