i think a big problem of mines (besides everything you mentioned before) is that I tend to try and draw to improve and not to simply create and enjoy myself

Kaya is quite possibly my most frequent subject. I think it helps to draw what you want, and you'll invariably improve in the process.

i mean ive been drawing since i was little. so i got a good decade and a half of experience right there. A lot of people see my art and kind of give up, I dont understand that mentality.
we artists have to own our identity and thats what freaks people out I guess

Yeah there will always be people out there better, and some people hit their stride early. Learn from others, but only ever compare yourself with where you've been and where you're going.

Seeing an artist's work should inspire people, not make them give up. That's what I think, anyway.

more often than not good artists do indirectly turn most people away
but that's like going to the gym seeing arnold schwarzenegger and giving up on being healthy.

Agreed, but some personalities can't be helped or they need to hear it in person. I was like that once because I was 17 and I'd compare myself to prodigies in the art world.

Hey it's all easier said than done, believe me - it's just human nature to compare ourselves to our fellow humans. We just have to fight the urge to be discouraged by it and instead use it as a learning opportunity.
