Introduction
Cultural and Language Immersion Scheme (CALIS) 2014, jointly organized by Department of Computer Science and Division of Building Science and Technology in collaboration with Middlesex University, was a 4-week programme aimed at improving students’ English language skills through a series of intensive lessons, cultural and social activities. At the end of the programme, students were arranged to take an IELTS examination in England.
Students were assigned to stay in separate host families during the programme, which increased their awareness of inter-cultural differences between Hong Kong and England through daily interaction with local British resident. In addition, guided visits to some renowned landmarks such as London Eye, Tower Bridge and Stonehenge and cultural activities like watching opera allowed participants to gain better understanding towards this Kingdom with centuries-old history.

Acknowledgement
As ever, CALIS 2014 has come to a great success. The programme was beyond our expectation and we all shared fruitful memories. We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks to Middlesex University and our homestay families for their thoughtful arrangements and warm hospitalities.
