- 2 sticks butter melted or 1 cup of butter melted
- 3/4 white sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (2 tsp molasses with 1/2 cup white sugar)
- replace 2 eggs with 1/2 cup sweetened applesauce (if not sweetened put in more sugar)
- 2 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp baking soda dissolved in 2 tsp hot water.
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3 cups all purpose flour (add 1/2 cup at time)
- add about 1/2 tsp of baking soda at end of batter
- then make into balls and add/ roll in chocolate chips as you please
- bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Step 2
Cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Add applesauce, then stir in the vanilla. Dissolve baking soda in hot water. Add to batter along with salt. Stir in flour and mix dough well then add 1/2 tsp of baking soda and mix into dough. Drop by large spoonfuls onto parchment paper on pans, then add chocolate chips to each ball.
Originally, the recipe calls for 2 cups of chocolate chips, so add that in right before making the balls if you don't want to add the chips separately to each ball (I would recommend adding a bit less than 2 cups, it gets quite sweet).
Step 3
Bake for about 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are nicely browned.
