Hey guys sethly here back with another apex legends video. I hope youre all having a fantastic day. In todays video we have a bit of news regarding skill based matchmaking in apex. Its been a while since ive mentioned anything about skill based in a video and thats mainly because they havent publicly announced any changes theyve made to the system but yesterday someone who works at respawn on apex legends, replied to someone on twitter, discussing the skill based system in apex pubs. I always make sure to let you guys know anything we hear about skill based and any potential changes being made to the system because it has been one of the main talking points that the community has been consistently bringing up for months. Its probably the most talked about feature in the apex community, rivaled only by crossplay and solos. To be honest, I recently thought to myself that I havent heard nearly as many people talking about skill based in the past month as I would expect but its only because ive gotten used to it.

Someone named the sbmm guy on twitter tweeted at m ray, someone who works in analytics and Data Science @ Respawn, specifically on Apex. The guy tweeted at him saying "Just so you're aware, we don't like sbmm in the game. It's pointless when there's a ranked mode. If people won't play ranked, maybe give them more of an incentive to + make it more of a ranked mode instead of a "grind" mode. I have no idea if you're the guy who analysis stuff for sbmm but, if you are, you're doing all of us an injustice. And there will always be ways around the system people will abuse anyway. We don't want two ranked modes!" I gotta say, I can see the positives to both sides of the argument. However, I definitely am leaning towards the side that thinks Skill based should be removed from pubs since we have ranked but I also dont think it should be removed entirely because at that point, it would definitely hinder the performance of the game because think about how the literal level 1 through 10 players would feel if there wasnt a system that helped ease them into the game. Without that little gap where if you have an account under level 10 then you match up with other people under level 10 or near that then people would be much less likely to come back to the game. Which is why, when you think about it in the grand scheme of things, it makes sense that skill based helps player retention drastically and respawn knows that which is why I 100 percent believe that they will never completely remove skill based. Clearly it would be a poor business decision, but there are definitely other things they can do to help.

Lets get back to the tweet, m ray replied to the guy by saying "hey sbmm guy, i appreciate the feedback (really!) The intention of a matchmaker is to give you *better* (fairer) matches, and it turns out that's not easy in a BR. So for what it's worth, we're trying to INCREASE justice - precisely the opposite of the message you sent me" As always its great to see direct interaction like this between someone who works at respawn and someone from the community. M ray's reply suggests that althought the devs have had issues figuring it out so far, they are still working to increase justice in how matchmaking works in the future. But as always, they didnt give any specifics as to how they are working on it but I would assume they are testing many different variables and changes so they can adjust it gradually rather than immediately. Its definitely tough work since theres so many different variables. Back in April, Jason McCord said their current matchmaking is trending the game up in almost every way. Which makes me wonder if its still trending the game up in every way. Make sure to comment down below your thoughts on the current state of skill based in pubs and what you think they should do about it. If you enjoyed the video, hit that like button, it really does help me out a ton and if you havent yet, make sure to subscribe and turn on the notification bell. But its been your boy Sethly, and im out.
