Within this perpetual darkness it seemed almost invisible, only the gentle moonlight revealed its location amidst the snow.
And perhaps it was only for this that the girl was able to notice the terrible sight from within the forest. It was dull grey in colour, with few steps leading up to the elevated, circular platform. What little stonework was built was now crumbling away, two statues looming over from opposite sides of the circle had now become unrecognisable, though since the creation seemed eldritch in nature it was unlikely the girl would have recognised their faces even if they were untouched.
But what was most troubling was that which lied at the fourth side of the circle, which, unlike the statues, had been connected directly to the platform. It was difficult to make out from this distance, all that could be distinguished was that it was some kind of symbol. Nothing important, perhaps, but amidst everything else it only fueled the unreal atmosphere which grew with each new discovery.
After what seemed an eternity of hesitation she left the forest and walked into the clearing. It was cold, yet it seemed unnoticable, only the ruin was on her mind as she approached it steadily. As she drew closer it became apparent of perhaps the strangest aspect, that snow had not fallen upon the stone. Indeed, it was completely untouched, as if not even the elements would dare disturb something so terrible. As the girl noticed this a brief moment of wisdom flashed across her mind, that she should turn back and erase the knowledge of this place from her mind entirely, yet curiosity prevailed and she pressed on.
Now the steps were before her and she ascended.
