Do Now: Please type a few sentences on the music of the country you chose from the 1950's and 1960's as a review.

Assignment:

If you can remember from last year, we studied music in the United States from the 40's-80's. Each decade brought on new genres (styles). For example, there was big band/swing and jazz, to the 50's with Rock n' Roll, the 60's with the British Invasion (The Beatles) and so on.

1. What was music like in the country you chose in the 1970's? Any new styles, or famous artists/bands?

2. In the United States, what music was popular during the 1970's? There was a completely new style that broke out.

3. What was music like in the country you chose in the 1980's? Any new styles or genres emerge?

4. What were some popular styles of music in the United States in the 1980's? Can you think of any popular artists?

5. The 1980's in the United States was a HUGE turning point in the country. The main theme was freedom, especially among teenagers and it was BOOMING with culture. We also had movies such as The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, and Saint Elmo's Fire. Do you think the music/culture of the U.S. had an impact on the music/culture of the country you chose? Please explain how.

6. What if we flip question 5 around. Are there any ways in which the styles of music or the culture of the country you chose influenced the music or culture of the U.S.? Please explain.
