Immigrants need to learn to speak english. When an immigrant comes to a majority speaking english country, its only right that they need to learn to speak english so that they can live and communicate properly with the rest of the country. There may be translators and others who speak their language but it's just not properly convienant for the english-speakers. If someone moves from another country that doesnt speak english but is not in school, it is understandable that they dont want to have to learn anymore after getting freedom from school. However, if that person has a child or is still in school, it would be convieniant for them to take some sort of english class, knowing English is not just for that country too. If some one were to travel out of that country, there are still tons of people speaking english because English is the second most popular language in the world. Personally, at my middle school, Everyday i would see people chatting in the halls in different languages because that is what language their parents speak at home. The middle school understood this but instead of making them take a world language, made them take reading as most of them know some english. A reading class along with their literature class would greatly help them improve their english. Knowing English can help them get their citizenship in that country and help them understood more than just communication. Knowing English can help the citizens understand the news and potential disasters, messages and emails from teachers and any necessary people. It also allows them to understand politics so they can have a say with their freedom of speech as a United States citizen.
