Character Background: Rae Daywalker

Guild Artisan Turned Private Investigator of the Outer Lands

I used to be a member of the respected Cartographer's Guild, working to accurately map uncharted territory for the kingdom. I was paid handsomely for my work, and was known for my attention to detail. However, after being framed in a palace scandal, I was banished from the guild and left to my own devices.

For five years since, I've been patrolling the outskirts of the kingdom, continuing my love of exploration and cartography. With features that blend into my surroundings - brown hair, skin, and eyes - I've become a part of the sandy Outer Lands. It works to my benefit, to be a forgettable face. In my 28 years, I've learned to be slow to trust but quick to disappear. There are a handful of people that I've met in my travels, that I've grown to care for and have seen a softer, truer side of me. I try to make sure to check on them from time to time, but they seem to understand that I can never stay for long. A traveling soothsayer once spoke of this restlessness in my heart, but couldn't seem bothered to provide anymore insight on the matter.

For the past few months, I've been lodging at the Drooping Moustache, a tavern and trading post in a small settlement on the western edge of the Outer Lands. On one occasion, tavern owner Mabel Silverthorne lost her cat; using my tracking skills, I was able to return the pet to the fair lady. Ever since, settlement inhabitants and the odd traveler have been coming to me to solve their mysteries. In typical small-town manner, they usually end up asking who I am and where I come from. I usually don't like to talk too much, but sometimes the right person can coax a story out of me, of the lands I've mapped and the sights I've seen...

And so I work, as a quasi-private investigator, making small coin while I dream of the world I used to explore and think of the betrayal in my past.
