I hurriedly took my Jacket off whilst I was running: there was no time to stop. The house I was staying at right now, I had borrowed from a friend, Charlie Elizabeth, since she was on holiday and I originally lived too far away from the crime scene. So I was stuck at this house that was in the middle of nowhere, in a tiny village with greenery all around, it would be pretty easy to lose her. ‘I have to keep running’ I kept telling myself over and over as If it was going actually going to help. If I stopped running, I’d lost everything: the money for the case, the money for the private investigation and possibly my job. My suit wasn’t made for running, and my shoes were rubbing against my feet worse than before. I do not even think that it lasted more than five minutes. As my legs slowly came to a stop I dialled my boss’ number, still running. I eventually stopped. For another breath. Looked up. She was too far away now, everything I had worked towards left me. Rage filled up inside me. I was angry, as angry as wasp, or a hornet. If only I were fast enough maybe I could catch her, just maybe. I yelled in frustration, I had locked all the doors in the morning, didn’t I? I was so hurt I wanted her to hurt. Who would possibly send her, practically no one knew where I lived. After a few minutes, my boss picked up the phone whilst I started walking home slowly, I had a lot of ‘what if thoughts’ as my wife would say. What if I had got home quicker. If I didn’t go to the last interview I could have saved my money. I cursed under my breath. “Michael!?” yelled the voice through my phone. “you lost the files?! You couldn’t lock your door or shut all the windows? Your one job!”
“No,” I replied through gritted teeth. “Someone broke in, and the only people who have keys to the house are me and Charlie, however, she is in France right now, but I’m supposing you want pictures of that for proof,” I mumbled sarcastically. Agitation ran through my veins.
“Are to trying to get fired Ford,” He said, as if he was daring me. Seconds passed.
“No Mr Woods,” I replied reluctantly. I hung up the phone and opened the door, objects smashed everywhere, papers all over the floor and pictures tore. Charlie was going to kill me. It was so frustrating, and humiliating that I didn’t manage to keep those papers safe. I cursed under my breath, again. I looked around the house, at the damage. I ran upstairs to see if she had forgotten anything. My face didn’t feel hot anymore and relief was all I felt. She left the files. She left the files and everything was still here, and I didn’t even care if she stole half one million because I had come back with another four mil. I sat down on my bed feeling relaxed and I turned my head around. Then I started thinking about who could have possibly done this and why they didn’t steal the cases. Unless they were looking for something, it would make sense, wouldn’t it? I sat upright and took my computer out of my bag, I looked at the camera Charlie had installed for me, in case this sort of stuff happened. It was getting dark as I skipped to the camera footage of the thief
