事の始まりは、職場の後輩女性である種本と仲良くなったことだった。当時私は31歳で結婚して3年が経っていた。彼女は25歳で、いつか結婚したい彼氏と同棲していた。後に私は妻との離婚を決めることになるが、種本と仲良くなった当時は妻に多少の不満はあれどそんな考えはなかった。ただ職場の先輩後輩として仲良くなっただけだった。
きっかけはは業務命令として下された外部研修で、私の世代向けの内容にも関わらず受講させられることになった彼女が私と履修クラスを合わせたいと言ってきたことだった。当時の私には若い女の子に慕われて何だか嬉しいという程度の気持ちだったと思う。研修は隔週だが3ヶ月に及ぶもので、必要な予習復習量も業務と並行することが辛い程だった。私達は平日の業務後に行われる研修後に二人で軽く飲んで帰り、研修のない週は業務後に会社で2人向き合って勉強をした。そんな時間の中で少しずつ彼女という人間を知っていった。彼女は私と同じくまともな人間ではなかった。今の彼氏と付き合うまでは何人かのセフレがいたし、男の傷は男でしか直せないとキッパリと言い切る人生観を持っていた。
