Hop and Kana were hanging out in his yard. They had gone to his house to have a battle, but ended up just playing with their Pokémon. Hop's mom jad made them lunch, and now they were sitting on a picnic blanket under the shade of a tree. Everything was silent. They were just enjoying each other's company. She opened her bag and pulled out a small book. "Hop. Look at this."

"Hm?" Hop turned his attention to the book. It was pink with a Buneary on it. It had a heart shaped lock and looked very old. "What is it?"

Kana smiled. "My diary from when I was five. Buneary was my favorite Pokémon. When I was young, I wrote the diary so that when I was older, and had a best friend, I would have them read this. As a way to find out more about me. I thought it would be nice, you know, to give them a... Guide to me, pretty much. I never gave it to anyone. The start is in Japanese, but... About halfway through, I started to write in English. As a way to practice. I pretty much documented big moments in my life and how I felt. I wrote a lot in it about Alola. I forgot I brought it with me to Galar. Since you are my best friend, I wondered if... If you would want tor read it. I have the key. Just as a way... To know more about me." she smiled and handed the book to her friend.

Hop smiled back. "Thanks! That's really cool!"

"I, um... Sonia wanted me to help her with research. Bye." Kana got up and left.

"Oh, b-bye...." Kana had left rather quickly. She seemed almost embarrased about giving him the diary. Whatever.

Hop went up to his room, the diary in one hand, the key in the other. He couldn't read the Japanese, but he smiled flipping through the pages and seeing her handwriting improve. Then he got to it.

The English.

Time to find out everything about his best friend.

I am Kana. I just gone to Alola. I met Andi. She is nice. I met Mr. Looker and Ms. Anabel. They are nice. Ms. Anabel is teaching me a lot of English. I am happy. Alola is new and scary. I am afraid. I am happy also."

Hop tried to keep himself from laughing. Her English had been so broken. He flipped the page.

Hop was shook. Kana had a boyfriend? Who was this letter boy!? She had never told him about her boyfriend in Unova. Why?

KANA WAS THE CHAMPION OF UNOVA. THAT WAS QUITE NEWS TO HOP. She had been champion before??? N broke up with her? He never loved her?..... This was weird..

Also!!!!!!!!!! MR. LOOKER AND MS. ANABEL SAID THEY ARE ADOPTING ME!!!!! I AM SO HAPPY! It is... Strange to know my stepmother was okay and more than happy to let them adopt me. She does not love me. They will be better parents. I am so happy."

Last night was Halloween! I did not do Halloween last year because I was sad. This year was different! I was a Hatterne. I think they are very pretty. Hatterne are from the Galar region. I am so excited to go!!!"

I wanted to battle Ms. Anabel. I borrowed a Pokémon from Andi. To prove I was strong. I wanted to let her know I could take care of myself in Galar. She said I could not battle her. I was not strong enough. She said if I can battle Leon in the Galar region, I can battle her. I will not be modeling right away. I will do the gym challenge! I am excited. I am going to Postwick instead of Wyndon now. I can not wait to fight in Galar! I will be champion!!!!!"

Kana... Didn't go to Galar for the gym challenge. She went for modeling?

I am about to start my journey tomorrow. Before I leave, I wanted to talk about Galar.

It is beautiful! So pretty! Cutest Pokémon EVER! I still like Buneary and Mimikyu... But I want to catch a Hatterne too! I also got a Scorbunny! He is so cute! I named him "Flamboni." He is so cute!

I also met Hop. He is nice. He chose Grookey. I do not think he likes me. I think he finds me annoying. I like his jacket. I hope we become friends.

I miss Andi, and Mr. Looker, and Ms. Anabel... I miss Alola. I also miss N. A lot. I really miss N.... I didn't eat today. I hope the journey makes not eating easier."




Hop flipped the page. The rest of the journal was empty.

He definetely knew more about Kana. A lot more. He had questions answered, but... Now he had more questions.

Who was this "N" that broke his best friend's heart and what was wrong with him. Who in their right mind would purposefully hurt Kana?
