-white>red>black>dilute
-shorthair>longhair
-agouti>non-agouti
-albino is codominant (only expressed together/homozygous recessive)
-if one single strand of fur isn't white, it's spotted
-white spotted that isn't cali is paws, muzzle, chest, + belly
-if the cat is ginger, it'll mask black and non-agouti
-male kits get color from their mother/ diluted versions of
-she-kits do the same but from both parents, and both parents must be red/cream for her to be red/cream
-if not colorpoint, the immediate parents determine color and can either can pass on a pattern
-dominant traits don't skip generations, and reds have red parents
-two recessive parents can't have a dominant kit, same with colorpoint
-if both parents are colorpoints, the kits are guaranteed colorpoints
-silver tabbies must have a silver tabby, shaded, or smoke parents
-shaded is half of the outer coat colored, smoke being only the undercoat
-all red cats have tabby marks (sex-linked gene/ it activates the agouti gene)
-a shaded must have a shaded parent, but the parent can have a smoke kit or a shaded kit, though not the other way around
-a bi-color (tortie) always has a bi-color parent
-particolors are mainly she-cats but not all particolor toms are sterile
-a white cat must have a white parent, and a white cat can have masked color genes. some white kits have a spot of color on their head that disappears when they mature
-two longhair cats can't have a shorthair
-a mackerel or spotted tabby must have a matching or ticked parent
-two classic tabbies can only create classic tabbies
-both parents must be at least hetero for dilute to have a dilute kit
-both parents must have the choc. or lilac gene to have that type of kit
-all male torties/calicos are XXY
-classic tabbies are stripes, swirls, blotches, and bulls-eyes, ticked are speckled but not striped, mackerel are stripes down the side, spotted are just that, patched are she-cats with any stripes and red patches
-the siamese gene is recessive and temperature-sensitive and sort of albino
-Tonkinese (Siam. + Burm.) are minks, more subtle
-chinchilla is only the outer coat colored, shaded is half of the guard hair/outer coat colored, smoke only undercoat white
-bicolor cats are white and any other color, even if only one white patch
-piebald cats are bi/tricolor and two-colored eyes, incomplete dominance
-tuxedo is the opposite of a van cat (Ravenheart)
-calico cats have any range of white and are red and black, sometimes diluted
-torties are particolored cats that are black with patches of red, sometimes diluted. the patches can be tabby
-all kits have blue eyes until about 2 moons old
-siamese cats have blue eyes because of their partial-albinism
