But life hasn't always been all work and no play. Working with a global team spread
across Chennai, Bangalore, Dublin, and Merrimack has been a rewarding experience in
collaboration, teamwork, and communicating in multicultural environments. But dealing
with cultural sensitivities was nowhere new to me. I have traveled to 17 countries, lived
in more than ten homes, and have gone through eight schools. So, meeting and getting
to know new people is something I always look forward to. Growing up in Dubai, I

played soccer all the way to the national level; a game that has taught me to
collaborate, compete, attack, defend and eventually, accept victory or defeat with equal
passion. I also represented UAE (United Arab Emirates) in World scholar's cup, a
debating competition in Thailand, which helped me sharpen my communication skills
and gain confidence in public speaking. I have spent the last two years volunteering in
an NGO, analyzing demographic data, and guiding them to provide vocational training
to students all across the country as part of the Indian government's Skill India program.
In Fidelity, I have organized hack-a-thons across IIT’s, NIT's, and other premier
institutions across India as part of Internship drives. I have also lead, a first of its kind
connect event called FidX between Fidelity and associates of other companies to
discuss and educate others about burning problems in tech and finance: something we
take pride in.
I am fascinated by the work being undertaken by the Center for Technology, Society
and Policy, especially the project on Algorithmic Intermediation and Workplace
Surveillance. Having worked on creating Dashboards to measure developer efficiency
and having seen the effect it has had on employee-employer dynamics during
appraisals first hand, I am curious to analyze other surveillance mechanisms and
possibly contribute to the research on finding potential policy responses to these issues.
This very balance of technical, social, and ethical education that I find embedded in the
MSIS course at Berkeley along with the gold standard of technical expertise attracts me
and gives me faith that given the opportunity I will be able to absorb the skills to not only
excel in my career but will help me to become a more socially responsible human being.
