Zacharie is very smart

Not enough attention from parents

He wants attention

He's so desperate for some sort of attention that he lowers his grades to failing grades

His parents know nothing about him when asked (his friends names, what he does at home)

Someone has to step up

Zacharies father has to go to myanmar for a trip, takes zacharie with him

They're in thailand for a day then in myanmar

In myanmar they are in a city called yangon where they stay in a 4 star hotel. Zach wants to stay in something more simple like the homes in the country, not a hotel

He wants to go out and explore but his dad says no

He can't even turn on the tv

A little later zacharie meets a girl named Mya and he falls in love

Her dad is a professor at the university of yangon, he lost his wife , he created a plan to fix his country that would cost 250 million that would get clean water to everyone, create more schools and a lot more.

His dad has disappeared

His dad returns is gets deathly sick

Later we learn that zach's revolt is that he isn't going to become what his parents say hes has to become

After that Myas brother Ko than becomes an adult at a ceremony

Zach wants to become a monk

At the temple he is very hungry because back in canada hed eat a lot more than usual

Everything the other boys were doing was a challenge to zach
When they go to get their offerings Zach's father is there and makes fun of him While Zach just ignores him

A little while later zach's father says his mission in myanmar is finished and they have to leave

Zach's father forces him to go back to the hotel

Zach learns that his father and the monks are in danger so he needs to ask his father to help
Zach thinks about his dads friend U ting Maung but he knows his dad never had compassion for anyone

Zachs father regrets what he said and thinks about his childhood, and that how he was treated and how good he thinks hes treating zach

Zachs father says hes going to leave

At the airport he misses his son and thinks hes becoming like his father

He returns back to yangon

Francois goes to visit U just to see that he hasnt eated in 2 days because he cant afford it

He gives them a huge wad of cash

Zach uses food he found in a garden to feed 175 people

The old monks thank him

When zach goes out to get food again his dad gives him a rice ball
He tries not to cry

Later he feels like a different man

A few days later francois calles his wife to see how shes doing
