Notes

Kana stepped in the puddle causing it to make a small splash. She stood side by side with N in the Moor of Icirrus. It was raining but they had found a canoping tree to stand under and wait until the storm passed. N had found her there by coincidence. Kana really thought it was romantic like that- they met so often by complete coincidence that it just felt like destiny, like they were meant to be where they were to find each other. "S-so," Kana started. A crash of thunder interrupted her speech and caused her to shriek. She grabbed onto N's sleeve and clung tightly, terrified. Her breathing was heavy. She was doing everything she could to avoid crying. The thunder crashed again. Kana let out a louder shriek and tightened her grip around N's arm even more. The tears were starting to flow now. N look at her with a confused gaze.

"Are you... Afraid?" he asked.

"I-I... I am afraid of, thunder, yes...." she said quietly with a shaky voice.

"Why?" N asked now with a certain tone of disgust in his voice that Kana had heard her stepmother and sometimes even her father use. When she was scared they often looked down on her, and would suggest she get over it. It made her feel stupid and less than, having a fear of something so childish as thunder. She had heard N use it a couple of times when he was confused by something she said or did. She didn't think much of it until now. She felt... Hurt.

"It is... Loud. Scary." the thunder crashed once again. Kana shrieked yet once again and held onto N's arm for dear life. He let out a small chuckle.

"It's just thunder. It can't hurt you."

"I-I, I know. It just.... Scare me." N laughed again, this time partially because of her broken English.

N jerked his arm away and looked down at Kana in a condescending way. Kana felt bad- she felt guilty. She didn't mean to make him disapprove of her. She couldn't control her fear. He loved her and she didn't want to mess up and make him not love her.





She had been made fun of by people she loved because of her fear of thunder before. That's why she was so hesitant to tell Hop. But he.... Understood? Unlike her father, stepmother, and N, he didn't huff at her and question the logic to the fear, which there really was none. He just smiled and told her he was there when she needed.

Hop was different. Hop was different from anyone she'd ever met before.

And now here he was. She had simply texted him the word "thunder" and he was right over to her hotel room, just like that. No questioning. No patronizing. He just laid in bed with her, held her, and reassured her everything was gonna be ok. Instead of laughing when she cried he wiped away her tears. Instead of her having to cling to him in fear he would leave, he held on tight to her. He wasn't leaving, he wanted to be there. And that was new.

The thunder crashed again. Kana let out a small shriek. Hop held her tighter. "Sh. Hey. You're okay." he whispered softly. Kana felt safe. Kana felt happy. Kana felt secure. She had never felt so... Right.
