3 mandatory requirements
1. driver's license (international License is acceptable) 25 years old and above $29 everyday for age difference fee. 24 and below
2. Major credit or Debit card renters name
3. must meet minimum age restriction for renting state

Sales Tip: If the caller does not have a valid driver's license, does not meet age requirement or doesn't have an acceptable form of payment ask if someone traveling with them would meet all of the qualifications. If there is another traveler meeting the qualifications offer to book the reservation in that name instead and remember the person would need to be present at pick up time and would be the primary driver of the vehicle.

All renters MUST have a valid Driver's License in their possession at time of rent!

The following are acceptable for the rental of a car.

Unexpired license from the U.S., Canada and the U.S. territories of Guam, Mariana Island - Saipan, the Panama Canal Zone, Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands. (valid, current license - no copies). Inernational driver's license is acceptable.
All U.S. Department of State issued licenses/forms (DMVO)
A valid (before court date) traffic citation issued when a license is confiscated may be used to rent. Note: Some local authorities may not recognize it as valid. Some citations do not have a court date and are valid if the citation was issued within a reasonable time (less than 90 days old).
Temporary license or permit issued for lost or stolen license. Exception: This only applies to a temporary driver's license issued in the U.S.
Restricted licenses such as a license that bears a restriction to only drive "to and from work are acceptable, however a license which bears a restriction to driving to "daylight hours" may not be used to rent a vehicle after dark.


Acceptable Form of Payment

We accept all major charge cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, etc), as long as the renter's name is embossed on the card. We do not accept gift cards, ATM bank cards without an embossed name or pre-paid cards of any kind.

If “Debit Card Not Accepted” displays in the Agent Messages, the debit card is not an acceptable form of payment at the time of rental. Check for an alternate form of payment. At all Hertz corporate U.S. off-airport locations, debit cards are NOT accepted at time of rental for customers under 25 years of age.




FP Field - Verbiage Charge or Debit Card

The following rules apply to all rentals in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico:

The majority of customers are loyalty members so the FP auto populates the res format, ask for loyalty number before discussing Form of Payment.

For all non-member reservation/sales calls, ask:
"What major credit or debit card will you show at time of rent?" or "What major credit card will you show at the counter?"
The credit or debit card must have enough funds available to cover the approximate total and the additional authorization when the car is picked up. The authorization amount differs across brands. For Hertz the authorization amount is normally $200 in addition to the approximate total. For Dollar and Thrifty the policy is a bit more complex and can be found in Xpert under the topic of Financial Policy. Those funds are placed on hold and remain on hold while the vehicle is rented. The deposit is returned generally within 48 hours after the car is returned and the customer is charged their designated rental amount.
