1. "After dinner, sitting on the pyol, he told her, "Do you know a great load is gone from me today? I thought I had the blood of a man on my hands all these years. That was the reason I ran away from home, settled here and married you. He is alive." The author dramatically shifted the mood at the end by either lifting the Astrologer of a burden, or creating another burden. The man he attempted to kill could either be looking for him, or did not get the image of his face during his close-death encounter.
2. "The other held his wrist and said, "You can't get out of it now. You dragged me in while I was passing." The astrologer shivered in his grip; and his voice shook and became faint. " The author shifted the mood here as well, as he shifted it to a mysterious mood. The astrologer seems to be uncomfortable in the other man's grip, wishing not to speak to the other man after seeing the mans face.
3. "The astrologer transacted his business on the light of a flare which crackled and smoked up above the groundnut heap nearby. Half of the enchantment of the place was due to the fact that it did not have the benefit of municipal lighting. The place was lit up by shop lights." The author here gives a mood by describing in detail of what time it is and what it looks like in the scenery (Nighttime, due to the lights.)
