The black death in 1347-1351 killed an estimated 150million people across England. many supernatural treatments such as galens 4 humours were very The black death in 1347-1351 killed an estimated 150million people across England. many supernatural treatments such as galens 4 humours were very popular due to the Christian church accepting his ideas and having a major influence over the population. general public of the time relied on the treatment of the four humours including bleeding the paitent (to clense their soul), phlegm , black bile and yellow bile which was thought to balance body fluids and therefore prevent you from getting illness. other treatments such as bathing in peoples urine was thought to help people get better after they got bubonic pneumonic.
the black death was seen as the most devastating pandemic of the time mostly due to the ill knowledge of treatment. the disease seemed to originate from Asia and brought over to England by ships carrying rats with infected fleas. this made it really easy for the disease to spread across Europe and even made popular port cities like venice to quarantine themselves to prevent outbreaks of this deadly disease.

similarly, there was another outbreak of the plague in England called the great plague in 1665-1666.during the outbreak people had a broader understanding of how to act and it was generally more organised and structured. people who were suspected of having the plague were locked in their houses for 40 days and a watchmen was put outside to make sure nobody enters or leaves to prevent the spread of the disease. unlike the black death, the great plague was isolated but still a major bubonic epidemic across major cities like London Manchester and Birmingham due to the industrialisation within which caused the urban society of the less fortunate to spread the disease rapidly.

during this time the general understanding of treatment was still under heavy development and so treatments didn't really change. people still believed in the four humours and flagellants still believed the should punish themselves and others by whipping themselves themselves as a punishment from god.
