Going back to this essay undoubtedly demonstrated my improvement throughout this class. The contrast between this essay and my visual analysis displayed to me the more varied vocabulary and improved efficiency. Doing a vocabulary list every week forced me to invest more into the words I used. I put much more time into the visual analysis essay’s choice of words. The more exotic vocabulary made reading about a work of art much more enjoyable. This class made me put effort into everything I did. I stopped worrying about word count when I found out creativity covered that requirement very quickly. If I spent the time researching a topic, I would find interesting facts that made for fascinating comparisons and creative word play. My first essay felt like a chain around my neck. Information was not easy to come by other than directly from House of Heroes. The most creativity I felt like I had was the fundraiser I designed. It made it feel sluggish to write and unenjoyable. When I started researching The Embarkation of the Queen of Sheba, I found so much information and such interesting interpretations. The topic gave me so much control over creativity and allowed me to write about something I invested myself in. I was able to write about the history of the painting and my interpretations of it. Writing to me is so intertwined with a person’s creativity that removing creativity removes quality.
When I write, I want to write something I am proud to show off. I will never be perfect though. I still have mistakes in my writing, but I have been blessed to have tutors and teachers willing to look over my work. The feedback I have received has made my work much better. I won’t have so many people to help me. I must identify mistakes I make and eliminate them on my own. It will hinder my ability if I cannot identify issues ahead of time. What I learned from my tutoring sessions about formatting made the biggest difference. One I knew what I was doing wrong, it just became identifying what needed to be formatted differently.
I have no doubt that what I have learned will aid me throughout life. My knowledge of the English language will continue to grow as I grow. Everything I learned from this class will be used in future endeavors and hopefully let me succeed in reaching a life I imagine.
