Nazım birimi olarak genellikle beyit, ölçü olarak da aruz ölçüsü kullanılmıştır.
Şiirlerde her beyit kendi içinde anlamlı olduğundan konu bütünlüğünden çok parça bütünlüğü hâkimdir.
Dili ağırdır ve söz sanatları fazlaca kullanılmıştır.
Divan şiirlerinde şairlerin ortaklaşa kullandıkları kalıplaşmış sözler vardır ve bunlara mazmun denilmiştir.
Sosyal konulardan çok aşk, şarap, kadın güzelliği, tasavvuf gibi konular işlenmiştir.
