Consider this instead:
Give every house cleaning customer a feedback form;
In the end of the form section, ask them to write a testimonial less than 25 words;
Offer them a $25 discount on their next service in exchange for the testimonial.
Note: make sure you put clearly that you will use their first name and last initial in promotions in exchange for the $25 coupon.

to further the idea, you could also set it up as a fundraiser for smaller groups, like kids sports teams, etc. Have a "For every booking we'll send $20 to team XYZ" - HAVE KIDS SPORTS TEAM PROMOTE THIS FOR YOU BY GIVING OUT FLYERS TO PARENTS ETC...

Add a script that if the mouse hovers over the back or exit button, pop-up that says "Get $X off", and a button below "No thanks, I'd rather pay $X more"

For twitter I simply
1) Find a local publication that is popular on Twitter. Not something with a large national audience like the Washington Post. But a popular local blog. That way most of their followers on Twitter would be local.
2) Follow the folks that follow the publication. If your twitter page looks professional, folks will follow back, and check out the site.
Quite a few of them book right away! Others follow us back and then when they need a cleaning they hit us up.
Another Twitter technique: Do an advanced search for terms like "maid services", "clean my room", "cleaning lady", etc. Narrow search results down by your geographical area and bingo. You have people mentioning that they need a maid that live in your city. Sometimes all I have to do is say "Hello" and it's a booking.

Yelp: Just create your account and keep your ratings high. You will need to manage this by encouraging clients that are happy with your work to leave reviews. Yelp has become a spot where people search for local businesses, so it generates traffic just by being on there.



Get an assistant eventually. And, pay them a bonus based on the volume of work that is booked. For instance, if they make $8 / hr normally, bump it up to $9 / hour if the previous month's billings are over $4,000. Set various levels and keep adjusting her hourly rate based on performance.
My wife tested this in her business, and this "sliding scale" with her assistant made it so the assistant was highly motivated to be pleasant on the phone and close the deal no matter what!
