How to join: Apply to join, Submit your account information and select a membership plan that best fits your needs, verify your driver's license and driving recordOnce approved, a Zipcard will be sent by USPS mail (typically takes 5-7 business days), activate your Zipcard, you can book Zipcars on our website or through the mobile application.

Insurance: Every member who complies with the membership contract is covered by Zipcar insurance while driving a Zipcar. In the case of an incident, members are responsible for a damage fee of up to the first $1,000 of damage to the Zipcar vehicle, and all further damage is covered by Zipcar insurance. There's also the damage protection option which gives you extra coverage in any accident you may have.

There´s a way in which any person you choose can use a Zipcar without having a membership. When adding an additional driver to your account they will be able to make reservations, but you (as the account holder) will be responsible for all billing matters.

Requirements: Applicants must be 21 years or older to be eligible for membership; 18 years or older if applying with a college or university partnered with Zipcar.
Applicants must have a valid driver's license. Learner's permits will not be accepted.
Applicants will be required to accept the terms and conditions of the member application and member agreement.
Applicants that possess a non-US based license need to submit a color copy of their driver’s license and passport. Applicants that possess a British Columbia based license need to submit a color copy of their driver's license, a driver's abstract and claims history
Applicants in Michigan under the age of 21 must have no major violations (see below), "incidents", or alcohol or drug related violations.
Excessive speed (20 mph or more over speed limit)
Operating to endanger, reckless driving, etc.
Leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage
Operating a motor vehicle with a suspended or revoked license
Speeding in a school zone (or similar events)

A contract to acquire a membership exists.

If you lose or damage your Zipcard, verify your address is correct on your account page and request a replacement card

Discounts: Extra Value Plans or “EVP” are rate plans for Zipcar members who drive often and want lower driving rates. These plans are billed monthly and include discounts and driving credit that will be applied to your reservations.

Refer a friend to Zipcar and receive $25 in driving credit once they become an active Zipcar member. Once they join, they’ll also receive $25 in driving credit

Accident Process: 1- Report the incident
2- Take pictures of the damage, call the police to fill out a police report, and collect
information
3- You will immediately receive an email with a link to fill out an Incident Report
4- Coverage, liability, and claims will be handled by Zipcar’s claims administrator
5- The local Zipcar office will inspect the vehicle for damages and bring the vehicle in
for any necessary repairs. Your Zipcar account will be suspended while we
investigate the incident and Sedgwick works through the claims process
6- Once the investigation and claims processes are complete, your account will be
reviewed to see if the suspension can be lifted

Most penalties result in extra fees or membership suspension or cancelation:
Late Returns: $50 per hour (up to a maximum of $150), plus the vehicle usage charges.
Low Gas: $30 if you return a vehicle with less than 1/4 tank of gas.
Zipcard Replacement: One free replacement card per year ($15 for each additional card).
Ignition Key Replacement: If you lose the key, the replacement fee is $75 plus costs for materials and labor.
Reservation Changes: There is no charge if you cancel or shorten your reservation with the required advance notice. The required notice is located on your reservation confirmation.
Tickets/Violation Processing: You are also responsible for paying any parking tickets and moving violations incurred during your reservation. If we receive a notice and process a violation, you will be charged a $30 processing fee.
Damages: Up to $1,000 to cover the costs related to an accident.
Other Violations: $50 per violation, plus costs incurred by Zipcar anytime a visit to the vehicle is required (including visits due to smoking or pets in the vehicle).

Zip car is not responsible for lost and stolen items

If you're unable to find your reserved vehicle at the beginning of our reservation, please follow these steps:
Make sure that you have the correct date, time, and location, using the mobile app.
Make sure that your reservation time has actually started; if not another member could be on the way back with your vehicle.
Use the mobile app to honk the horn on the vehicle in case it has been parked slightly out of location.
Call us at 866-4ZIPCAR. We can direct you if the vehicle is at a nearby alternate location. If the vehicle is not nearby we can move you to another vehicle.

If you find a lost item in a Zipcar, please place it in the glove compartment or the trunk. If it is an item of considerable value or something that may be time-sensitive such as medication, please call 866-4ZIPCAR for assistance.
If you left an item in a Zipcar, you can make a reservation to check the vehicle for your item or call 866-4ZIPCAR for help. Please make sure to check the glove compartment or the trunk as your item may have been moved to one of those areas.

It is only permitted to drive your Zipcar up to Canada, but you can not take it to Mexico or any other country
