RUBY BRIDGES
Ruby Nell Bridges was the oldest of five children. She was born on september 8 1954. Her parents were Lucille and Abon Bridges who were farmers in Tylertown, Mississippi. When Ruby was two years old her parents moved to new orleans louisiana in search of better work opportunities. Rubys birth year concided with the us supreme court landmark ruling in bron v. the board of education of topeka kansas, which ended racial segregation in public schools. Ruby bridges was the first african american to attend an all white school.Ruby Bridges was six when she became the first afrian amerian child to integrate a white southern elementary school. On november 14, 160 she was excorted to class by her mother and u.s marshals due to violent mobs. because ruby bridges was the african american to attend an all white school it was a very hard experience because white kids and their parents wouldnt accept the fact that ruby bridges the only black person at the elementary school was there. everyday they were theraig with violent mobs outside of the school. They were often yelling curse words, threaths and other harsh things at her every single morning. Ruby bridges was never really scared until this one day she saw a woman holding a black doll in a casket thats when she really got scared. T o attend this al white school Ruby bridges had to pass this test that they made her take. later after the kids took the test rubys parents were informed that ruby was the only one out of six kids that passed the test. because of the abuse ruby was getting it did not only affect her it also affected her family as a whole aswell Her father loss his job at the filling station, and her grandparents were sent off the land they had harecropped for over 25 years. the grocery store whre the family sopped at banned them from entering.
