The use of quadratic formula to determine the solution of a quadratic equation if it can't be factored. 3. If the "a" coefficient of the quadratic formula is positive then parabola will open up and if "a" is negative the parabola will open down. 4. The discriminant can be use to determine the number of real roots. If the discriminant is > 0 then there are 2 real roots. If the discriminant is = 0 then there is one real root. The first concept I chose was about the opening of the parabola and how it was dependent on the coeffecient. The second concept was the vertex formula, x= -b/2a. The third concept was the discriminant formula which is b^2-4 a c. The final concept was that the domain is all real numbers. I picked up on other concepts as well, but I felt that these are the most basic and necessary components of this unit. The third one is when finding the range of a function, if the graph opens up the range is y greater than or equal to the y value of the vertex, and if the graph opens downward then the range is y less than or equal to the y value of the vertex. And the range of a quadratic function, if the graph opens upward the range is y greater than or equal to the y value of the vertex.
